During the COVID-19 pandemic, we want to assure you we have taken the appropriate measures as recommended by the Centers for Disease Control, the American Dental Association, the California Dental Association, and the California Department of Public Health. We are routinely disinfecting commonly touched surfaces and have protective barriers in place. We screen the entire staff each morning prior to any active patient visits. We also pre-screen patients prior to their visit which includes a questionnaire and temperature reading upon arrival. Patients will be required to wear a mask upon entering our office. Please come alone so we can maintain proper physical distancing. If you need someone to accompany you, they will be required to go through our pre-screening process with you. You might be asked to wait in your vehicle until we have properly disinfected the office prior to your arrival. We can then call you on your mobile phone when we are ready for you.
If you are not feeling well and have a fever, dry cough, or shortness of breath, we ask that you stay home and contact your primary care physician.
With the continuing COVID-19 pandemic, you may worry about going to into the endodontist’s office for a root canal procedure. Besides being nervous about having a “root canal” done, you might be concerned about leaving your home, or fear the potential for viral exposure from other patients, endodontists, or their staff.
Even prior to the pandemic, dentists had a good track record on infection control. We have used many safeguards to protect our patients, such as rubber dams that limit aerosol emission during treatment and appropriate personal protective equipment.
Healthcare agencies such as the American Association of Endodontists, American Dental Association and the Centers for Disease Control have called for additional measures in light of the virus, which our practice has adopted, such as extra PPE, more frequent disinfection of treatment rooms, reception room, new HEPA air filtration and proper physical distancing.
One of the technologies our practice has integrated is the GentleWave procedure for cleaning and disinfection of root canals, which offers several benefits during this time of COVID-19:
* The GentleWave procedure is generally performed in our office in one visit, minimizing the inconvenience of a two-visit procedure, and thereby reducing a patients’ potential exposure to COVID-19. Your specific situation might require more than one visit however.
* The GentleWave procedure helps preserve more tooth structure, giving patients the opportunity to save their natural teeth.
* There is virtually no aerosol released during the GentleWave procedure. According to the Centers for Disease Control, some endodontic instruments create a visible spray that can contain particle droplets of water, saliva, blood, microorganisms, and other debris. Because the GentleWave system is a “closed-loop” system, this means it is designed to release virtually no aerosolized material into the air.
* Instruments used during the GentleWave procedure are pre-sterilized and used only once, eliminating any potential for cross-contamination between patients.
We hope that the information provided here answers many of your questions about endodontic treatment. If you would like additional information, please don’t hesitate to contact us at Culver City Office Phone Number 310-458-6677.

Root Canal Surgery
Endodontic (root canal) surgery can be used to locate fractures or hidden canals that do not appear on x-rays but still manifest pain in the tooth. Damaged root surfaces or the surrounding bone may also be treated with this procedure. The most common surgery used to save damaged teeth is an apicoectomy or root-end resection.
